TACNY Junior Café Scientifique: Water Pathogens @ Museum of Science & Technology

Feb 18 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Charles T. Driscoll, PhD, a Distinguished and University Professor in Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, will lead a discussion aimed at middle school students about water-borne pathogens from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the MOST, 500 S. Franklin St., Syracuse.

Driscoll will discuss how English physician John Snow traced the cause of an 1854 cholera outbreak to contaminated water, and how that discovery improved public health. “There are many types of water pathogens, or disease-causing organisms, that have been discovered since the time of John Snow that we will discuss, including the toxic algae blooms we are experiencing today,” he said.

Junior Café Scientifique is sponsored by the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY), and usually held on the third Saturday of the month during the school year at the MOST. A light breakfast is provided. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free, but TACNY asks that you RSVP to jrcafe@tacny.org. After the event, participants are welcome to explore the museum at half-price: $6 for adults and $5 for children 2-11
